The Sissinghurst sconce is inspired by the stylistic restraint of Neo classical design, which Martin has subverted by drawing on the radical spirit of the Bloomsbury Group, famed for their celebration of the decorative and the handmade.
The sconce's curved body and simplicity of line is emphasised by the decorative flourish of the stylised Greco-Roman twin scrolls at the base, a contemporary tribute to symmetry and grandeur.
The bold, simplified silhouette comes alive through Martin's individual marks, sculpted texture, and the worked fluid bronze plaster, breathing warmth into the form of the Sissinghurst design.
