Introducing the sculptural Downland Bronze Sconce by Martin Huxford

Martin's design for the Downland sconce is intimately connected to the curved outlines of the smooth chalk Downs which surround his studio. Working in plaster, his sculpture is an evolving interaction between intention, hand and inspiration.

The Downland sconce evokes the beautiful curved landscape of the South Downs, with a simple, bold silhouette and tactile surface. The rounded outline of the sculpture is emphasised by the symmetrical twin light sources. Hand made in both large and XL sizes, the scale and simple drama of the sconce adds character and warmth to entrances and drawing rooms.

The distinctive Sussex Downs landscape is the inspiration for Martin's hand sculpted plaster form. His design is both a reflection and abstraction of this local countryside, and emphasises the rounded contours. The body of the sconce has been shaped to curve round on itself, ensuring there is no hard edge where it meets the wall.

The Downland sconce is handmade at our Sussex studio, in two sizes. The sconce can be finished in bronze, plaster white or a custom painted colour.
