Introducing the Venus Mirror
From Botticelli to Surrealism
by Martin Huxford

Martin Huxford's Venus Mirror is a unique centrepiece, with a hand sculpted frame which evokes the organic beauty of sea and shells as it flows around the offset oval glass.

The asymmetric design of the frame highlights the shell-like scalloped edges, which curve and undulate to suggest the movement of the wind and ocean waves.

Martin takes inspiration from Botticelli's iconic Renaissance painting of the goddess Venus as she rises from the sea on a shell, transforming it into a surrealist portrayal of organic movement. His sculptural interpretation suggests the feeling of the breeze and the rising ocean swell, captured by the curves of the shell-like asymmetric frame.
