Martin Huxford's Delphos Floor Lamp blends the rugged texture of his hand sculpted lampshade with the refined organic marks running the length of the dark stem, which flow into the elegant foot. The contrasting textures forge a creative connection between shade and base, presenting a heightened stylistic unity from their shared sense of movement, materials and unique tactile surface.
The delicately detailed surface of the dark base summons fluid images of water, taking inspiration from the famous pleated silk folds of the ground breaking Fortuny couture gowns of 1909, renowned for their simple shape and natural movement.
The deeply textured shade has an open thread like sculptural form which allows light to pass through, emphasising the scale of its ruggedly pleated open structure.
The contrasting detail of the refined base and the exaggerated rough organic texture of the shade, adds an intriguing depth through the play of textural scale and tone, united by shared material qualities and hand sculpted detail.
Each floor lamp and shade is unique and sculpted to order at our Sussex studio, and there will be minor variations in the hand applied texture of the base and the shade.
