Origin is one of a unique series of lamp sculptures by Martin Huxford. Examining the tensions between our built environment and the irrepressible forces of nature, the sculpture is an exciting juxtaposition of smooth architectural forms, disrupted by rough organic texture.
A commanding statement piece, the Origin lamp brings light and warmth, with the unique textures and presence of the handcrafted. Each aspect of the lamp presents us with a dynamic view, as ordered geometry battles warmer organic forces.
The tactile organic edge of the sculpture is a graphic assertion of the power of the natural. The projecting curve of rough texture breaks away from the repeated architectural geometry of the main body of the lamp, offering unruly force in the face of angular repetition.
Each lamp is handcrafted to order at our studio in Sussex. Using a traditional cold cast method, the original plaster sculpture is cast in a choice of three materials: white marble, bronze and dark bronze.
