The richly detailed surface of the dark base summons fluid images of water, taking inspiration from the iconic pleated silk folds of the ground breaking Fortuny couture gowns of 1909. The lamp evokes the sinuous flowing movement of the gown, the modern simplicity of style and innovative fine pleating, reflected in the exquisite hand created surface and organic form of the lamp base.

The deeply textured shade, with its open thread like sculptural form allows light to pass through, emphasising the scale of its ruggedly pleated open structure. The contrasting pleated forms of the refined base and the exaggerated rough organic texture of the shade, adds an intriguing depth and resonance through the play of textural scale and tone, united by shared material qualities and hand sculpted detail.

Each floor lamp and shade is unique and sculpted to order at our Sussex studio, and there will be minor variations in the hand applied texture of the base and the shade.
