The XL Cissbury Plaster Pendant creates a focal point of welcoming light, of inviting organic form and rich hand sculpted texture. The light source placed within the bowl creates dramatic uplighting, which is complemented by subtle accent illumination of the central column where it pierces the bowl.
The XL Cissbury Plaster Pendant creates a focal point of welcoming light, of inviting organic form and rich hand sculpted texture. The Cissbury embodies a contemporary minimalist ethos which connects to the natural world through Martin's choice of working in plaster. His expressive sculptural style uses hand made marks and simplified organic forms to evoke the presence of the living world.
The two parts of the design create a contrast between the sweep of the bowl, and the upright column which pierces and disrupts the shape. Light spills around this inverted junction, accentuating the shape and patterns of the hand textured surface to create patterns of light and shade.
Working in plaster, Martin’s fluent organic design is inspired by the local chalk landscape of the South Downs and references the ancient hill fort of Cissbury Ring, the largest in Sussex dating back 5,000 years.
