Martin’s inspiration for the sculptural Downland white plaster sconce is closely connected to the curved outlines of the Sussex chalk Downs which surround his studio, and is a reflection and abstraction of this landscape.

The Downland sconce offers a contemporary interpretation of this iconic landscape, with a bold, atmospheric silhouette and hand applied tactile surface. The imposing curves of the sculpture are heightened by the symmetrical design of its double light form. With its distinctive texture, imposing scale and simple drama, the sconce brings character and warmth to entrances and drawing rooms.

Working in plaster, Martin’s sculpture captures the ongoing interaction between intention, hand and material.

The Downland sconce is handmade at our Sussex studio in two sizes, and can be finished in bronze, plaster white or a custom painted colour.
